Philo
Hello adventurers. I have returned for another blog post. In this episode I will be telling you about my travels to the Casey's General Store in Philo, IL. I did this trip on Wednesday 11/16 right after school. I did this quickly, because I still had quite a bit of homework and chores to do. Below is the route I decided to take. Traveling to Philo from Urbana by bike is not optimal. Both of the roads from the northwest are highly trafficked highways.
The first step to going on this journey was putting on the right attire. On this day I wore a hat under my helmet for the first time, a coat, a pair of jeans, and some running shoes. I needed to stay warm because it was around the freezing point of water. Below is an image of me in my garage wearing this attire.
After getting everything ready, I departed. At first I felt pretty good, but after about a mile the wind started getting annoying. It was blowing from the west which forced me to focus on my balance. Additionally, it also made me a bit cold. Eventually, I made it to Old Church Road, where I took a turn to the east which provided me with a tailwind. This was by far the most enjoyable part of the ride because I was moving quickly, even with little effort. Unfortunately I eventually had to turn back south again which meant I no longer had a tailwind. In the last section of my ride, I turned east again and rode very fast. Once I arrived I hopped off my bike to take a photo, but immediately afterwards headed home again. Below is this photo.
My return journey was bad at the beginning. Immediately I faced a strong headwind while on a narrow highway with lots of car traffic. Although I was equipped lights, I was still a bit scared of getting hit. Once I turned north though, I felt more safe. My feet also became extremely cold, specifically my toes. Therefore I wanted to get home as fast as possible. Overall, the ride was not too bad except for the wind and the cold. Below are the statistics of the ride. Both the initial and return journey are recorded in the same trip. On the way back I also decided to take a slightly different route as you can see on the map below.
That was it for this journey. Because there was nothing out of the ordinary here, I also decided to include some information about the bike I'm using. I am biking with a trek bike that I got at a local bike shop this year. I do not know the exact model, but I use it to commute frequently. My helmet is a Bell helmet that my family has had for as long as I can remember. Below are images.
Goodbye readers. I hope to see you around in the future.
